Dual Sealed HT Sub Rec

Due to size constraints, looking for a set of dual sealed subs for ny home theater setup. I know for HT vented might be a bit better but need something more compact. HT room is 12x24, 8' ceilings. 100% HT use. Was looking at the SVS SB3000 but what else should I be considering in that size, price range in a sealed sub? I don't have to have every last bit of bass, just great sounding subs for movies.

Tbh for sealed HT I would look no further and go no lower than dual SB-3000’s
I'm not familiar with the SB3000, but it may be a good choice.

If you can go a bit larger, look at the Hsu Research ULS-15 Mk2. The SB3000 is roughly a 15" cube; the ULS-15, 18". (15" driver rather than 13".)

There are a number of Rythmik sealed subs that you might want to check. http://www.rythmikaudio.com/ They are servo subs, and spec out higher than traditional subs of similar size.

I own neither. (My subs are Hsu VTF-3 Mk5, which aren't compact.)

Hsu and Rythmik are Internet Direct sellers, which means that their market is basically the continental US.

I currently own the SB3000 and am reluctant to say that I’m likely returning it. It is very “tight” and has great tone, but it’s not quite what I’m looking for on the (50/50) HT side of my tastes. I love the convenience of the app, but that’s where it ends for me. It is a very good performer for a smaller subwoofer, but for about the same money there are better options in a slightly bigger box.

Since you’re 100% HT, take a look at the Power Sound Audio S1510. It’s 2” wider and taller than the SB3000 and about the same depth (with the SB 3000’s grill installed). It has a larger (15”) driver, a more powerful amp, XLR inputs (if you need them), and a “Room Size” adjustable Q contour control to better integrate it into your room.

If the standard “sandpaper” matte black finish is a turn-off, it can be ordered with a furniture grade custom finish as a $250 upgrade.

If you’re willing to wait a few more weeks, PSA is introducing the S1512 which will use a new 15” B&C Neo driver. It will cost a little more than the current S1510, but this is the direct I’m taking.

I’d also throw in another recommendation for HSU ULS-15. I’ve heard one (but not in my room) and it’s an outstanding subwoofer.

Good luck with whatever you decide... :)

Sb-3000

I am in the other camp.

I got an SB-3000 to serve as the ".1" in a 5.1 setup with Elac Debut v2s (though a Sony STR-DN1080) in a living room setup (open design floor plan with room open into dining room to the right and kitchen behind), and have found it to go almost perfectly with them. I haven't had any point yet where I really thought I needed more, and have it dialed back for music a bit because it was overpowering the other speakers.

Can I ask you what size your living room is? I currently have a single pb1000 & looking to upgrade to a single sb1000. How is the sb1000 for movies? I am worried I may lose something in the movie performance going away from ported. I am about 50/50 music to movies. So both are important to me.

I have a Rythmik G25 it sounds amazing. Not sure what your budget is, but I went from a PB4000 and like this sound much more. Its dual opposed 15 inch drivers, so not a super small footprint. I will eventually add a second, as I have two buddies that have duals...and they said they've never heard better.

There's an AVS member selling a pair of Chane SBE-118s (18" passive, sealed subs) w/ the Chane 3600 amp for $550 (plus shipping). Definitely worth a look if budget is tight.
