Using Vista I'm looking to send sound out of the Realtek HDMI and the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio SPDIF output at the same time in order to send sound to 2 amps simultaneously. Goal is to have my main PC be the source for a whole house a/v system powered by 2 amps.

Set up will be: computer in basement with DVI to monitor and SPDIF to basement amp power a 3.1 (no rear surround in basement, just 2 fronts, a center, and a sub) speaker set up. Basement amp will also power 2 speakers in exercise room via secondary (b) speaker channel. Will have HDMI running from basement computer up to main amp in living room. Using a cloned screen set up, so by switching a channel on the upstairs amp, will be able to see desktop screen. The HDMI will power 5.1 speaker set up and then secondary channel to outside. Will use Gyration LCD remote http://www.provantage.com/gyration-g...s~7GYRA14H.htm that uses RF to control computer.

Would love to have the option to use this set up to either have sound play out both outputs simulaneously or even better would be to have the choice to play separate audio streams.

Let me know your thoughts.

AFAIK, you cannot choose both; it is always either-or.

You can play separate audio streams if your on-board sound chip is capable but that is through the analog outs from the rear and the front.

Basically it would be multi-channel analog out from the rear ports and stereo out from the front panel ports. Check your motherboard's manual for that.

Other than this I don't believe there is a way to use both HDMI & SPDIF at the same time.
