Must be an unusual laptop. I've never run into any that have the necessary duplex operation needed for an app like REW.

well, if it's working then it is ok.

duplex sound cards are able to output (a test signal) and input (the mic) on the same channel at the same time. i've had four or five laptops and none of them had duplex. all required an external usb sound "card."

nope, it's working. i'm using the headphone output jack sending the sweep to my receiver and then i plugged my ECM8000/MXL usb Mic Mate into one of my USB ports. i've used it like this with TrueRTA as well. i'm using an IBM Thinkpad T43.

I actually have a couple questions about this as well.

1. Most BFD models have two channels so you could EQ two subs separately, correct?

2. If you have two subs which are not co-located, with one being significantly closer to the seating position than the other, can you use the BFD to introduce a delay to the one further away?

3. If I get a passive sub, should the BFD go between my pro/pro and the sub amp, or between the amp and the sub?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Mic Mate into a USB? Then that's two separate "devices" and your onboard sound is probably not duplex. But, it's working, so you're good to go!

yea, the ECM8000 is getting phantom power and hooked to my laptop with a Mic Mate and a usb cable. the ECM8000 plugs into one end and then it's usb on the other end to my laptop. here is the mic mate: http://www.mxlmics.com/products/USB/...e_Classic.html

You could eq each sub independently (1 per eq bank) but that may not coincide with the best results for the two subs when played together. As for the passive sub you would want the BFD between the avr/pre and the subs amp. IDK about adding delay but hopefully someone else will be able to help on that.

Snowmanick already covered 1 and 3. As for #2 the BFD doesn't do delay. How I wish that it did though! If you need something to add delay you may want to look at the DCX2496, it's a crossover but has PEQ, shelving filters, delay, pretty much anything you'd ever need to do to the input signal and with 3 inputs and 6 outputs you should be covered for a while.
