We are building a new home, and I've talked the wife into 2 subwoofers "built in" into the base of the built-in's in the Gathering Room. I've decided on a single Crown XLS 2502 powering both subs.

I've attached the layout of the Gathering Room and the adjoining kitchen/breakfast area. The Subwoofer locations are the thick Black rectangles.

TV will be above the Fireplace :eek: on a MantelMount. We've also agreed on 2 front towers, a center below the MantelMount, and In-Ceiling LR Surrounds and Rears to complete a 5.2 system.

In this scenario, where the Subwoofers will not find another home, would you expect the MartyCubes or 4cf Sealed FlatPacks to perform better for 90%HT/10%Music?

The only placement that may change is moving them from the outer edges of the built-ins, to butting up against the fireplace. Which should work better?

Keep in mind I'm moving up from a 12" Acoustech, so these will be game-changing either way.

that's a tremendous volume 22 x 30 ++++
gotta be over 6K cu. ft.
good luck : I'm gonna have to science the **** out of this.
It is! Unfortunately in this home, there will be no area for a "dedicated" HT. Therefore, a dual purpose room with relatively high WAF is what we're aiming for, which is why we will have in-ceiling surrounds and rears, hidden subs, and a smaller center channel than I'd prefer.

I know the area could use more LFE surface area, but getting even these dual 18's to be agreeable was a huge stretch.

.02 you may get "more' good bass going ported, like a minimarty, 40" tall -but you lay them down sideways, might make the right height for the lcr maybe some DIYSG 1099s
plan to get proficient with REW and hopefully the built in DSP for the subs works
given the preference for HT, maybe a BOSS platform is in the future for more theater fun

The only placement that may change is moving them from the outer edges of the built-ins, to butting up against the fireplace. Which should work better? > REW to the "rescue"
does that sub amp also let you upload REW results?
