i have a bunch of hi8mm tapes, i wish to put onto dvd's.

i bought a toshiba dvd600 recorder, but it will not allow more then 2mins of dubbing before turning off. i own the machine since xmas, sent it back 2 weeks ago, got it back on wed. still does not work, sent it back again.

the tech says maybe it hits a blank spot on the tape (there is no blank space where it is stopping), or the machine senses a copyright/etc/etc..

my question is there a way to dub from my camera.. an old hitachi , the wire out of the camera has an s-connector and regular video, 2 audio's.. to a computer, download the 2 hr tape to my computer, and burn a dvd...

thanks
