Dumb Question

725 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Vulcan4279
Last Night, I bought Watchmen on DVD. For some reason, When I have the HD-A2 upconvert to my CRT it really looks Amazing (HDMI from the player to DVI to the CRT). So I thought to my self, if it looks good on that TV, I will just move my DVD player to the living room and watch it on the 60 inch JVC HD Projection TV cause it will look even nicer. I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes without taking the dvd player back into the bedroom to watch the rest of it on the 30 inch CRT. Would that be the Cables fault or just the TV's fault really? I mean it was really granny and I kept getting a blue line across the screen sometimes. So was wondering if it was the cables or what? Maybe somebody here can help me out. I just pretty much bought Big Lots HDMI cables for 12 bucks.

Did you use the same cable for both TV's? How long are the cables?

The HDMI cable will not cause a granny picture, but it could conceivably cause the blue lines.

To get a valid picture comparison you should stand twice as far from the 60" set as the 30" set.

Nope, cause my CRT uses DVI and the JVC uses HDMI. The cables are 6 feet. Maybe thats the problem, I'm about twice as far away from the 30 then I am from the 60. But that's only because of the way the living is laid out really. I mean. I could take a picture and see if anybody recommend anything for a new layout. Also the TV I'm using is a JVC..crap, gotta sorta deal with me fellas till I can find the model number. It says it does 1080i and 720p, but there isn't Alot of options for customizing the picture at all.
I'm just saying that for a proper comparison of the two pictures, you need to temporarily view the 30" at half the distance you view the 60" set. Then if the 60" picture still looks worse, you have a valid concern.

You are doing the opposite which makes the detail in the 60" set four times larger, allowing you to more easily see the graininess and other artifacts in the 60" picture.

Does the JVC have any sharpness or other video filter adjustment? If so you might play with that.

I gotcha I gotcha. See I did adjust the picture and sharpness due to the THX built in programs in some of there DVD so it looks nice. But You know, I might have to play with it till I find a right mix that I like it
