I just had my HDTV set up by the installer. Got an elliptical dish and a new Panny STB. I noticed when I watch my SOny HDTV now that most of the channels are not viewed in the full screen but almost in a letter box format. IS this the way all the channels will be now that I have the hi def receiver ?

Not a dumb question at all. Most STB's (I have a Sony, not the Panny), have an option to upconvert everything to 1080i. If that's what you're doing, then you will get 4:3 letterboxed for non-high definition programming. To avoid this, you must watch SD channels as 480i/p. When you do that, you'll also be able to use your TV's zoom control.
