The new "Dune HD Smart H1 media player" is showing in "Key Features" it has "8642/8643 media processor". Can it have both? My understanding is the odd number chip is always the stripped down version, so the 8642 is the best one.
Also, what would be the best HD for internal use be? I'm assuming a 2TB and maybe a WD green 5400rpm to keep the heat down?
Thanks,
Tom

The 8642 and 8643 are the same the 8643 is the Non-Macrovision Version.

Thanks for the link, good info! But what I don't understand is in the spec sheet they list the Dune HD Smart H1 media player as having both 8642/8643?

Excellent table! Did you prepare it yourself? If so, please add a couple of rows to it:

DTS-HD decode to 7.1 LPCM

TrueHD decode to 7.1 LPCM

Note that this is different from downmix, which makes the multi-channel HD audio to be 2 channel in nature.

If you look at the NTV 550 player based on SMP 8642, they mention TrueHD decode to 7.1 LPCM while DTS-HD decode is only downmix or passthrough. The information I have is that DTS doesn't give license for full decode unless the player has a physical Blu-Ray drive (would be great if there is some unit which does that without the BR drive, and contact them to ask why they don't think it is a violation of the licensing rules).
