Wife wanted this stand:

and although it is nice, my harmony has issues at certain angles with my Moto 6412 DVR. Does anyone think it makes a difference if I use Duracell Ultra, or regular batteries in terms of IR signal strength?

With the batteries in new condition the initial voltage of the both Coppertop and Ultra are the same so this will not effect the IR signal strength. As batteries are discharged the voltage drops and the IR strength will diminish. The difference between the two batteries are chemical changes so that Ultra performs best under high drain rates. Most remotes are low drain devices so in this application the performance difference between the two will be minimal. Therefore the most economical approach is to use the Coppertops.
doubtful, at least with fresh batteries.

which harmony do you have? I believe the 520/360/880 series remotes have weaker IR transmitters than the 6xx series.
I have the 680. Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Now I wish I went with an RF remote, although I love everything else about the Harmony. Other than that, it works awesome with the Moto 6412.

You could always set up an IR repeater with a receiver outside of the cabinet that would then send the signal on to your devices directly. An RF remote might not help much since there'd be a base station sending out the IR signals and I don't see how you could fit that inside the cabinet in such a way that the base station could "see" all the devices simultaneously. That said, you could try and "convert" your Harmony to an RF remote with one of those RF adapters that sits in the battery compartment. It'll have the same base station issue though.
