Simple stuff, but can't find the answer...

Can I connect the LAN port of my PC directly to the LAN port on the ReplayTV box or do I need to connect them both, separately, to my network.

If I can connect directly, do I need a regular or a crossover cable?

Thanks

You will need a cross-over cable.

BTW, if you have the connection type set to modem on your RTV, the LAN port will be disabled (I think).

Actually, it's sorta the other way... if you activate ethernet with just a cable (not in the setup), it messes up the phone connection (packet routing issue).

This was reported to be being worked on for the next release.

Never done it, but it should work. I believe that the RTVs supply an automatic IP address when they don't find DHCP and they don't have an address set. Try it out. Can't hurt. But be ready for the modem dialout to fail.

After many false starts and countless reboots I have two 5Ks updating on modems and LAN connected for streaming.

Lee's advice is correct, even without a DHCP server the units will recognize each other and communicate. The process may take some minutes to take place so be patient. The trick is to have the units set for modem updates before connecting the network wires. It's the other way around that creates the headaches.
