DVArchive- Downloads but then deletes show(s)??

365 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  icecow
I have a new computer that I needed to slowly reinstall all of my old programs, and one of those programs was DVA.

DVA is now installed, and seems to be working and functioning fine except for one small detail. It downloads the program, and after the download completes, DVA appears to delete the program. I have retried several more times.

At first, I thought it was a problem with my replay unit, but evidence strongly shows that DVA is deleting the shows as soon as the download completes.

Once, I download several shows at one time, and I saw that DVA held one of the shows in the import path while it was trying to download the next show, but after each download session completes, DVA deletes the show(s)

I went under [File]-[DVArchive Proties]-tab[Store] and looked to see where the import path and local guide path were, and they appear to match with my hard drive's directory folders. I even re-edited the paths to the same exact hard drive paths in case there was some sort of problem within the DVA properties. The only thing that I haven't done is create new folders with different path names and re-direct the DVA properties to those spots. I'll try that if no one has a fix.

Since it takes a while to download a program each time before I can find out if my latest correction attempt will work or not, I decided to just stop and see if anyone else has any ideas as to why this deletion problem occurs. Plus, I don't know if the 15 download ReplayTV limit applies in this case too, so I didn't want to waste the download count in case it does.

Do you mean the show is deleted from the Replay or the PC? If the Replay, then you need to change your choice in DVArchive from 'move show' to 'download show'.

There's no limit on how many times you can download shows to DVArchive.
As chain777 says, if the missing downloads on the RTV, it is because you have set the shows to be MOVED-- use the DOWNLOAD option and the shows will be moved to your pc and will remain on the RTV.

If you can not find the shows on your pc, then do a simple search/find for *.evt, *.ndx, or even *.mpg to discover where they are sitting on your haard drive.
I'm sorry. I meant to imply that DVA was deleting the show(s) only from the PC, as soon as it has completed the download.

What files system is the destination (FAT32/NTFS)? Is there an error message in DVArchive?

From the : DVArchive FAQ

Category : Downloading Shows

After downloading a show, the downloaded show disappears and I get an error in the Messages tab

If the show appears to download completely but then fails, it's likely your Storage paths are at fault.

Check the Storage paths for the Local_Guide via the File->DVArchive Properties Dialog, Storage tab. Insure that 1) the paths are valid, 2) there is free disk space on at least one of them, 3) that at least one with space is not marked ReadOnly and/or Removable and finally 4) that you have permission to create files in the paths.

It's NTFS (WXP Pro w/ SP2).

For some reason, I didn't think about looking in there. Duh...

I won't be able to check on this until late tonight or first thing tomorrow morning. I'm at work doing a 12 hour shift. I'll post any error messages that I find.

Thanks for the FAQ message. I should be okay with regards to everything in there, but I'll double check.

Everything related to DVA appeared fine, but the error messages seemed to indicate that it couldn't fine the path to Local_Guide, although it existed.

What I have finally done is uninstalled DVA, checked for any left over files or directories, downloaded a fresh copy of only DVA from the site, and re-installed the program.

Everything appears to be working correctly now. All that I can figure out is that something became corrupt within it's setup or properites.

Thanks to everyone for helping.
