I followed the threads with respect to streaming to try to resolve my probem without success. BTW..... the TCP Optimizer is great! Highly recommended to anyone who networks with Replay.

My problem is that when I stream from a DVA installation on the network to the RTV, I get 15 seconds of the show (perfect transmission) and then a message comes up stating... "Video Temporarily Unavailable".

I have 3 computers running DVA. Two are wireless and one an Ethernet 11/100. DVA's functions work well on all installations.

If I stream from the RTV to a DVA or DVA to DVA, there are no problems. The show qualities are "low" so that shouldn't be the issue.

I use Windows XP Pro, DVA 2.1 and a Linksys WEP11 wireless router. I used TCP Optimizer today for the first time (Windows scaling unchecked).

I have seen posts by Gerry saying to tweak DVA's network settings. However.... I don't want to fool around with something that works for all of the other features (downloads, transfers, etc.).

Am I missing something? Has anyone seen this message before?

Thanks for your help.

I'm still a bit scetchy on how you have your network laid out. Is the RTV on a wired network with at least one of the PCs? If not, I really suggest using this approach to ensure you are getting the maximum bandwidth for streaming. This is why I went crawling through my attic last weekend to run cable from the upstairs RTV (connected to a 10/100 switch and a WET11) down to my bedroom where a soon-to-arrive 5040 will go.

If you are hell-bent on streaming over 802.11b, you can try to disable WEP (I am not willing to do this) as WEP can have a serious impact on your wireless throughput.

Anyway, good luck and godspeed.

Thanks, MethodMachine.

The RTV is Ethernet 11/100 to the router. Off the router is on DVA installation on Ethernet and 2 that are 802.11b . As I said, RTV to DVA or DVA to DVA streams without a hitch.

WEP is not enabled on my Linksys.

Thanks,

Does your router indicate if you have 10 or 100 MBps connection active? I use a Netgear switch and the inidicator light turn yellow for 10 MBps and green for 100 MBps. This way, I am sure I have a true 100MBps connection between my PC running DVA and the RTV.

Also, I have found that the integrity of your cable terminals is of utmost importance. I tried using screw-terminal type wall mounts when setting up my wired network. THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR STREAMING. I found I could establish a 10 Mbps connection, but 100 Mbps...forget it. Whether connecting to a wall plate or just crimping your own plugs onto some patch cable, try to maintain the twisted wire pairs for as long as you can before splitting them out to the connection points.

I have a similar problem. I have a 100mbit connection from the replay 4050 to the pc.

The video plays for a random amount of time then hangs up. No garbled video or anything like that, it just stops in midstream.

I have applied the TCP fix to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I neglected to say that I have a 4080 RTV...... if that helps to find a solution.

Hey, I have a strange problem. couldn't find it anywhere.

When I am trying to open the DVA Software, it gives the folowing error "Windows cannot find javaw.exe. Locate javaw.exe"

But when I try to do that, it still gives me the same error. I dunno if the software is not able to detect Java on my system. All the other applications related to java run properly on my system.

Can anyone help me. :(

wayne, couple of things, what are the replay-> DVA speeds you see? How about when you stream a show from DVA to replayTV? Watch DVA's upload status stuff to get this number.

If these numbers are looking good I'd suggest looking at perfmon (if you're using windows 2k, may exist for other windows, but i don't know) You can set perfmon to have a monitor for TCP/IP traffic. Watch that and see if you see anything strange in the first 15 seconds. I'd think you should see no problems.

Also, the cable is important, just cuz a cable works doesn't mean it's working well. Perfmon will clue you into cable problems.(maybe)

Another thing, if you can wire up a connection like this...

replay -> router

Thanks, JeffD....... lots to digest. I am going to go through your steps this morning and I'll let you know.

Cocapepsi....... Make sure that you read the FAQ's for DVA and search the forum. This issue has come up often so you should find lots.

It is important to have the latest Java installed. Also... right-click on the icon which you use to launch DVA. It should list java.exe and javaw.exe as suggest programs. Select javaw.exe and then click the box that says "always use this application" .

With that you should be good to go.

Now back to my networking problems.......

Thanks,

Well now I have an update to my problem. Found out I could stream from DVA to DVA with no problems but when I go from ReplayTV to DVA it hangs within a random amount of time.

Near as I can tell this eliminates any network problems. (Was pretty sure this wasn't the problem anyway.)

Anyway, anybody got any ideas?

Knipper....

This is exactly the problem I have. I have followed everyone's advice with no improvement. DVA to DVA is perfect..... even wireless DVA to wireless DVA. However, when I try DVA (wired or not) to my RTV 4080, I get sporadic transmission followed by the "video temporarily unavailable" message.

I also got my first instance of RTV reboot this afternoon.

Gerry, if you are monitoring this series of posts, I can send you all of the error messages off the log.

More than that I can't add.

Thanks,

I'm following, but I really don't have much to offer. Whenever this sort of thing happens, it always turns out to be a network issue, TCP tuning issue or software running on a PC interfering. Also, some system just don't stream well and I beleive it's about overall latency (could be the NIC or something else). But those are generally difficult to remotely diasgnose and aren't meaningfully visible in DVA logs :-(

I have problem streaming in the reverse direction. My RTV sits downstairs connected to a Dlink wireless adaptor. My Dlink wireless router is upstairs and my PC is wired to the router (no WEP). With some TCP Optimizer tweaking and 4x11Mbps mode turned on for the Dlinks, I can stream a 30min high quality show from DVA to RTV start to finish. However, when I try to stream shows from RTV to DVA's videolan client, the transfer rate max'ed out at around 350K/s, which is sufficient enough to stream only basic quality. I set the max download rate in DVA to 0 and that does not help. I know the wireless network can handle 700Kbps the other way, so it should not be a network issue. Does anybody know what's wrong with my setup/settings? Thanks in advance!

Dunno if this is a similar enough problem, but I finally got VideoLAN, and it streams, but the bottom-half of the screen is completely garbled.

It does this whether I'm streaming from my 5080, or from another DVArchive machine. My throughput from the 5080 is normally 1.8Mbps, and from my main DVArchive server is about 8Mbps, so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue.

Any ideas?

What I finally ended up doing is just downloading the shows via DVArchive then viewing them locally. A major pain in the *** but it works.

I'll probably format and reinstall windows since its obvious its something internal to windows(non network problem).

I had streaming problems from DVA to my Replay. The video would stop after about 7 to 8 minutes, then a 'video not available' error would crop up.

I first used TCP Optomizer to change my settings, but the problem persisted.

It wasn't until I made the changes directly in the registry as per this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...87#post2398987 thread, that my problems were solved.

Worth a try.
