Hi all!

I am in the process of building my HT system, in medium range. Not much knowledgeable about the whole thing but learning. I am getting Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver and good quality speakers ($350 a pair). I am looking for a DVD player (that also plays music CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3s, VCDs, SACDs etc). Single disk is ok.

-a/v receiver is 6.1 so do I need 6.1 DVD player too?

-don't have a separate CD player. Would like to use DVD player for playing CDs

-my TV is 32" Phillips Magnavox (this is the last item I will upgrade. Right now looking for an excellent audio only)

-$$ less than 400 is what I am thinking

Appreciate any suggestions on models.

Thanks.

The Pioneer DV-563A-S has DVD-Audio and SACD support.

The Sony DVP-NS755V has SACD support but not DVD-A.

The digital output on the DVD is what would be outputting the 6 channel signal if any (not many DVD's have this anyway). Otherwise it's just sending DD 5.1 or DTS.

SACD and DVD-Audio would be output via analog connections. (5 channels).

Thanks Joe_M for the suggestions.

Which instrument actually does the decoding, DVD player or the A/V receiver? What I am getting at is: does it make any difference when the DVD player has 5.1 output (like DV-563A) when it is connected to the 6.1 receiver? Is it double-dipping?

Thanks.
