Forget the Bass Shakers, when is DVD going to be encoded with signals to ignite propane heaters, and activate water misters during special effects. I want to get four of those Lowrider Hydraulic Shock Thingamajigs you might see Cheech or Chong using in their '63 chevy impala lo'rider" - Mount one to each leg of the sofa, and really shake the couch during LFE excitation. How about door electric door locks during scary movies? Shoulder tappers during scary movies? Can I get a hologram to walk across the room and sit next to me? Can I specify whether I want it to be Cindy Crawford, or Elle MacPherson?

I guess the jist of this mind bending excercise is to simply ask the questions,

- How can we tap into or tweak existing DVD encoded data to enable some of these things?

- Were is DVD headed?

- Who are the people who can make this happen?

I love this hobby. Anything is possible.

Well, Joe 6 Pack is still trying to get his 5.1 speaker setup. I can't imagine the water misters, hydraulics and automatic hand in a box for the mass market. Most of these types of things can already be done, although it would be totally custom and very expensive.

The hydraulic system retails for $20,000 for one platform that can support 4 people.

Steve,

I knew you were a credible male once I heard how many subwoofers you had, but now there's no mistaking it!

Poindexter,

Joe will get it all figured out just fine. The easier you make it for him, the less he'll enjoy it, so let him keep working at it.

As for blazing new trails, we haven't all lapsed into socialist laze faire I hope? This is still the greatest show, I mean the greatest country on earth, and we didn't get that way because of Hollywood - She just keeps us entertained, and too often sidetracked, from what men in society should be doing. What's that? Building, breaking, and maintaining things. Which leads me to $20,000 hydraulic systems (?) Good gosh my dear man, I don't want someone else doing all the "Thinking, designing, building, breaking, maintaining, scratching it off the drawing board, starting all over again" stuff. Save some of the fun for me. Besides, it costs too much money to outsource all of those tasks.

I am programming ignorant. (Can't spell either - oh well...) How to link the LFE signal to hydraulic actuators? Maybe Cindy will know. I've always admired her for her..., her...., Oh give it up Doug! Hey Steve, give me a nudge when she comes back into the room, will ya?

Thanks

Here's a thought: monitor the subtitles (or "for hearing impaired" track) for certain words - "" or "AAAHHHHH!!!!!!" (or something like that) with a computer and have that tied to an actuator (a hand, or maybe wires connected to 110 via an X10 switch??? - OK, maybe not 110 :) ). We may be onto something here. he,he,he...
