Using Panny 85, dumped programs from Tivo to RAM. Based on several forum members recommendations, have been testing TMPGenc, videoredo, and Mpeg-VCR to transfer from HDD to mpeg format and edit. Then use Ulead product to burn.

Before I buy one of these (leaning towards womble product), do any off-the shelf like Cyberlink DVD Director or Nero or Roxio products do the conversion and editing parts? Would like to have all-in-one solution.

I have Roxio's Media Creator 7. Haven't tried all the parts yet. But, it recognizes the file on the disk(unlike other earlier software from them and others). Allows you to edit, add menus and titles, etc. It supposedly acts like Womble and only re-encodes (conversion) the parts that need it. You therefore don't lose picture quality going digital to analog and then back to digital. You can then order a burn.

Original cost was $100.00. Best Buy had a special a few weeks ago for $80.00 and then Roxio was rebating $20.00 if you were upgrading it from an earlier version or another companies OEM version.

You're samrt to test as many trialware versions as you can. That way you can see what works or gives you fits. If I remember TMPGENC is highly rated but gave me problems. One recognized every 30 seconds of video as a title and maxed out at 99. Another one (not sure who) froze my computer when I tied it. Unfortunately Nero was changing the way they offer the software when I wanted to try them.
