DVD Playback Question (newbie?)

199 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Hocky
I am really using DVD playback on the PC for the first time via s-video to my TV. It is not an HD, just a normal TV that was just purchased. I have noticed in some portions of playback (at the start of a DVD) when there is no video, just a black screen. There seems to be a band of gray moving up slowly across the screnn. It is just there enough to be irritating. I have tried various players and codecs. All with the same results. I do see some on my monitor, but not as bad. I have tried two video cards. Both nVidia one is a geforce FX 5700le and the other one is an older geforce.

I have also tried moving the PC away from my TV and moved the speakers away as well.

I have just got in to this so please, go easy with me.

Yep. I have done that. First thing I tried. I have noticed that I get the same effect at a DOS level. I boot to a floppy and I can see the same thing. I am convinced now that it is an interference problem some place. Next set I guess is to start taking out cards. After that I guess would be trying different fans and after that would be the power supply. I guess it wouldn't hurt to move my other PC over and see if I see the same thing. Maybe there is something in the combination of the amp, pc and TV. Kind of a ground loop thing that is coming back to the video. Any thoughts on that?
