Neighbor needs a reasonably priced dvd player. Can you use a prog scan player on any tv? with only composite or s-video inputs. Thanks

I don't believe there's any progressive scan signal that gets transmitted other than with component video outputs. So, for that purpose, no. That's subject to correction by one of the more proficient, but I believe that's correct.

But they all have s-video outputs, so, for that, yes. But it would be an interlaced signal. Still, you can pile up on the features even if you're not using them now. The JVC progressive scan dvd player, with dvd-audio, can be had now for under $300. And there's probably better bargains than that.

The best deal, as far as progressive players go, is the Panasonic RP56. You can find it between $199 - $229.

I'd pass on the Pioneer 434 due to the fact it does not perform the 3:2 pulldown.

If the TV set does not have progressive component inputs, getting a progressive player will add nothing to the quality.
