I purchased a 1080p upconverting DVD player, but I realized it lacks DTS output capability. I do, however, have a surround receiver that outputs DTS. Will I still be able still be able to output DTS signals to my speakers or do I really need a DTS capable DVD player?

Every DVD player these days can handle DTS (they simply bitstream them out). What is your player's maker and model? How do you connect to your TV and receiver?

Below are my components. The TV(arriving on Tuesday) and DVD player and brand new. The Sony receiver is old, but has 5.1 outputs. Since I don't have the tv yet, nothing is hooked up. I'm just making preparations in advance. Thanks for your help.

TV: Panasonic TH46PZ85U Plasma

DVD Player: Philips DVP5990

Receiver: Sony STR-DE545
