I purchased a liteon 401s a couple of months ago it is a DVD+R/RW drive and I finally got around to picking up some media. The media is compusa that I got on a deal.

Last night I loaded it up and windows XP only saw the media discs as 0 bytes 0 bytes. It was quite a frustrating expierence. I updated the firmware and it did nothing.

nothing as soon as I inserted it the drive would read it as zero zero bytes.

I tried this with multiple discs and I couldn't burn anything to it.

For what it is worth, the NIST did a study of recordable DVD media and they found that by far the one characteristic most associated with good playback and compatibility across multiple readers and players was how much the media cost.

So, spend a few extra bucks and get the top-quality media by Taiyo Yuden (TY) or Mitsubishi Chemical Corp (MCC). See the media forum of videohelp.com for all the nitty girtty and where you can find the best prices on the good quality media.

It sounds like you're expecting windows explorer to show blank media as 0 of 4.7gb. It doesn't work like that unless you have some burning software that MAKES it look like that. I'm sure your drive came with some low-class burning application, but I would really suggest grabbing Nero 6.
