DVD (R) w/ Tuner & AVI Support

I looked about and did not see anything like this, but I was wondering if there was a DVD player that you could record to off of TV, had a TV tuner built in (like a VCR) and possibly, but not really necessarily could play mpg, avi, etc. files. I know a HTPC would do this, but I am a financially challenged educator and well... I have to live within my means. Any suggestions for something similar to this?

They all have tuners.


There are one or two I've heard about with DivX support.

I saw this on Ebay and saw the rough reviews on Amazon:


Toshiba D-R4 Multi-Drive DVD Recorder


I'm looking for something similar, but of better quality yet roughly the same price. I think it was around $150. Any suggestions for something stable? I play a lot of DVDRs I make with my laptop, compatability and ease of use are strong selling points. Trying to keep the family happy.

I know it lacks divx support, but the reviews on the RCA were pretty rough. I can live without it.
