I'll be purchasing a DVD recorder soon and am needing one with coaxial digital audio out. I already have a coaxial digital audio cable running about fifty feet through the attic and I don't care to replace that with an optical cable.

So what are my options? I know there aren't a lot of recorders that offer coaxial digital out (most just have optical). I really like the Panasonic E85 with the included hard drive to edit out commericals, but it's optical only.

So far this Toshiba (RD-XS32) is the only coaxial audio out/hard drive recorder I've seen so far. There must be others though.

Nice. I didn't know these existed.

Anyone have any links to purchase these at the $15 price point? Just did a search and they look like they are in the $40+ range. It looks like I will need an optical cable to use it with the converter. Is that true?

FWIW, I recently bought a Gateway AR-230 DVD recorder that has both Optical and Coaxial digital outputs. Unfortunately it does not have a hard drive, but the unit works excellent. Gateway has them on sale on their Website for $149.00! I got mine on HSN.
