I see that DVD-R's are available in 4.7GB and 9.4GB discs. Are the 9.4GB discs two-sided so that you have to take them out and turn them over to play the second side, or are they dual-layer so the second layer plays automatically without removing the disc from the player? Thanks.

The 9.4GB discs are double sided, you need to flip them to use the other side. Their main application is for jukeboxes etc. The dual layer discs (such as many movie DVDs) are pressed, and there is no current way to burn a dual layer disc. Also the cost of double sided media is very much more than single sided media. Blu-Ray with 30GB per side looks like the next capacity step.
