Hi,

I have just tried DVDFab 6.0.2.2 that has the ability to extrach the main movie plus selected audio and subtitles from blu-ray with exact 1:1 copy

It creates a main disc folder and then I convert it to ISO file using image burn.

The iso plays with TMT 3

I tried Underworld 3 blu ray and i saved 20GB of storage without quality loss. Just the main movie, True HD english audio and english subtitles

hbomber thanks for the tip. I did not know that.

I know that does not support bd+ yet but you can use anydvd first to remove the protection and then use DVDFab for ripping the main movie ??

Is there also a way to include the blu ray menu with the main movie ?

No menus unless you just copy the whole thing - (nor will that be possible - same with regular DVDs)

The problem is that if you keep the menu, then you need to keep all the links (for lack of a better word) active, which means you need to keep all the content intact. (You would have a menu item for "extras", but nothing there when you selected it...)

rockytt,

I was thinking only for the popup menu of blu-rays, so you can choose the chapters easier or choosing a different audio if you keep more than one.

I will experiment with the file structure tonight if I have time

With the video files which are not the main menu or the movie, I like to just overwrite with blank files. The file structure remains in tact so that nothing is broken, the ISO's are reduced by about a 1/3, and no more advertisements or annoying screens. Works like a charm for me.

avmjt,

you mean that you just rip the whole disc on the HDD, then overwriting the stream files you do not want with blanks ?? This way you have a functional menu and a pop up menu ??

What happens with discs that forces you to see something before the main movie begins ??

Thanks.

AnyHD promotes the fact that you don't have to have an HDCP compliant video card or monitor to view BD movies. Does DVDFab do the same?

For BD's I'm considering getting the combination of DVDfab for rip/burn and Arcsoft for playback. I have an older ATI 9600 video card that works great for DVD - currently using DVDfab and Theatertek using DVI out to my Kuro 600M plasma.

Precisely!

When the disc forces you to see something, all it is doing is playing a video file and disabling your ability to skip it or fast forward. Once the video file is done playing, the disc moves to the next video file. When I replace the video files that I don't want to see with empty files, the video players still play the files but you never see them because they are skipped before they begin since the files have no video frames. Nothing misses a beat because as far as the disc is concerned, the video file was played without incident and the disc moves on to the next video file in the play list. I replace all the video files with empty files, except for the menu and the actual movie. Some movies are divided among two or more video files, so I'm sure to keep the entire series of files that belong to the the actual movie.

I don't even keep the ratings screens, nor the Fox, Universal, Sony, or whatever intros. Not even the silly animations after the movie credits. Right to the menu, click play, movie begins. Movie ends, and back to the menu. It's so not what the studios want, but it's what I want, and when I'm watching a movie, it's on *MY* time.

Could you explain how you achieve this (overwrite with blank files)?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

I just open Notepad and save over the file with a blank file.

It would be easier if I could right-click the files in Windows Explorer and empty them with some sort of utility in the right click context menu, but I haven't found such a utility. I could make one with vbscript. Maybe some day.

You know that they are going to patch that sooner or later and then the player will stop when it finds an empty file.

I thought about it but honestly, I highly doubt it. But if that happens, just go back and replace the empty files with whatever it is that may become required to exist in the files. Hmm, the fix could actually be much easier than the original work to clear the files. A vbscript could be made to auto replace all empy files with the new file in one swift click.

Simple way:
  1. Create a blank file (we'll call it "blank.file") and save it in the folder of your choice.
  2. Create a batch file in the same folder (well call it "blanker.bat") with the following code:
    Code:
    Code:
    @echo off
    copy /Y blank.file %1
  3. Set the properties on blanker.bat to "Run as administrator" if you are running UAC.

Now you can just drag and drop files onto blanker.bat and they will be cleared.

MANY THANKS!!! Maybe this could be added to the right-click context menu??

It tried it but it didn't work at first, but then I realized that the blank.file had to reside in the folder with the files that are being cleared, so I changed the reference to the blank file in blanker.bat to an absolute path. I placed both files in my programs directory and here's what I now have in blanker.bat...

@echo off

copy /Y C:\\PROGRA~1\\blank.file %1

Now it works great.

I also added it to the right-click contect menu for Windows Explorer and now it works even better. Here's how to do it...

1. Select Folder Options from the Tools menu in My Computer or Explorer, and click the File Types tab.

2. Highlight the m2ts file type, and click Advanced. If m2ts is not listed, then add it.

3. Next to the box entitled Actions, click New and enter "Clear File" for the Name. Then click Browse and locate your "blanker.bat" executable. Be sure that this entry is not the bold, indicating that it is the default action. You don't want it to be the default action because you don't want to clear the file by just double-clicking it.

All Set! You can now quickly clear m2ts files by right-clicking them. Thanks to vladd for making this possible!

  1. Copy and paste the following code into a file:
    Code:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Classes\\.m2ts\\shell]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Classes\\.m2ts\\shell\\blank]
    @="&Blank"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Classes\\.m2ts\\shell\\blank\\command]
    @="\\"C:\\\\Path\\\\To\\\\Blanker.bat\\" \\"%1\\""
  2. Edit the ".m2ts" to match whatever extention you want.
  3. Edit the path to blanker.bat (Note the double backslashes).
  4. Save as blanker.reg
  5. Doubleclick to merge it into the registry.
  6. Right click a file an select "Blank". (You can change this in the reg file if you want it to say something else.

You will notice the "&" in the context menu entry ("&Blank"). That just specifies the default key so you could right click and hit your "B" key. Just place the "&" before whichever letter you want as the default key. It must be unique in your context menu though. So you couldn't say have "&Blank" and "&Blank2". You would need to have "&Blank" and "B&lank2" so one uses "B" and one uses "L". A default key is not required so you do not need to use the "&" if you don't want to do so.

Edit: posted too late, you figured it out.
