Hello everyone!

I obtained a DVDO edge approximately two years

ago. It has been sitting in the box and after all this

time I decided to hook it up and get a looky-see.

I am not certain that this device is really something

I need. I have an excellent home theater setup with

all my components being routed through my Denon

HDMI receiver.

When I hooked up the DVDO I ignored all the HDMI

ports since I prefer to use my receiver to handle all

the inputs and do all the switching.

So, I essentially went HDMI OUT from the receiver,

into HDMI IN on the DVDO and then HDMU OUT to

my display.

So, my first question is, am I fine hooking it up this

way? I realize every component will share the same

feed and that I will not be able to individually tune

each device accordingly.....

....which brings me to my next question....

I set it up in the manner that I did because I had

hoped that to some degree the DVDO would simply

be a "plug and improve" device. In other words, at

default settings I would see an improvement in picture.

Am I correct in assuming that simply by plugging it

in I will see an immediate improvement?

Is there a switch on the remote that I can see NORMAL

FEED vs. FEED ENHANCED WITH DVDO? Can't seem to

find something that switches between the processed

signal and raw.

In the end, I may just end up disconnecting the DVDO

if it doesn't offer instant improvement without having

to tweak it. I really would rather not use it as a

switching device since everything is set up nicely between

my Harmony Remote and my Denon Receiver to handle

all of that.

Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

Thank you in advance for answering my questions.
Some quick comments:

1) You don't provide specific Denon Model or it's video processing capabilities; therefore hard to give some specific responses. Also you don't specify your display model which would tell something about its' processing capabilities.

2) I was/am using an Integra 9.8 (very capable pre/pro). I inserted the Edge "upstream" of the Integra. Edge does processing and sends only audio to the Integra. Edge sends video to 65vt25.

3) Took a little more than an hour to change my Harmony setup; and it's fairly involved with an Oppo, PS3, Xa2, VCR, HR24, Integra, and the Edge.

4) Edge lip sync adjustment is automatic and better than the Integra processing which requires my manual efforts. It was definitely worth the time adjusting the Harmony.

5) Significant benefits of video processing. Much better upconversion of 480 i/p and 720p. The vt25 has an issue with RGB when calibrated for YCbCr. My HR24 (satelite receiver) outputs RGB. I have the Edge upconvert everything to 1080p, YCbCr 4:4:4 at 36 bits. Additionally, the vt25 (plasma) while new showed itself prone to "burn-in" fron FNC station logo and crawls. My wife tends to use FNC as background during the day; therefore I use the Edge to zoom/pan the logo and crawls out of the picture while maintaining an excellent sharp display (vt25 zoom was totally inadequate).

6) If you just "plug it in" the improvement depends upon the processing capabilities of your Denon and Display. However, what I said in item 5 above should basically apply. Finally, there is a risk that even if your Denon has a "pass through" mode; it will "screw" with the video. For that reason along with the audio, I would put the Edge upstream and take the time to adjust the Harmony.

rlb,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have the Denon 3808CI receiver and LG 60PX950

display. Since everything is going through the Denon

prior to hitting the DVDO I have no idea if one is

affecting the other.

I could just plug all my components into the VDO

and send the audio only to the Denon receiver. I

don't even know how to begin programming the

Harmony. I suppose I just add the DVDO as a new

device and tell the Harmony which DVDO HDMI output

to use for each. Honestly, it's not something I am

looking forward to doing but if you feel that I'll get much

better results than just using the processor as a middle-man

all-for-one go-between maybe I will consider it.

BTW...

Did I guess the correct method for

programming the DVDO for the

Harmony?

Just add the DVDO as a new device

and then with each component setup

indicate which HDMI output port is

being used by the switcher for that

device?

Yes, add the DVDO as a device; then add the device to each activity. Finally, you must change the settings for each activity to include the DVDO (including inputs, outputs, for each, etc.) When you go to the DVDO site with the activity view, it has a selection for settings. You change one activity at a time. Be sure to give thought to how you want to customize buttons.
