Hi, I am thinking about getting a DVHS recorder. I have a mits ws65711 with a firewire output and a dish 6000 receiver. I have my ota antenna hooked up to my mits because it has a build-in hd tuner, and I have the 6000 hooked up via componet cables. If I hooked up the DVHS recorder via firewire to my mits, will I be able to record channels like hdnet, espn-hd, and all my local OTA channels as well? thanks.

The ws65711 is just a TV. It will display things you send to via firewire (or component) but it will not convert anything. Since the Dish 6000 has no firewire outputs there is nothing you can record from it in HD. You will have to buy a seperate set top box for that. At the moment the only set top boxes that have firewire out are Over The Air ONLY.

Now if you don't mind voiding you're warranty you might want to check out the hack from 169time.com. It's not my cup of tea, but it may work for you.

If you don't mind spending another $1,000 and having another box running!
