Hi all, I have a stupid question about the dvhstool program. I'm interested in getting an HDTV reciever (Samsung SIR-T165), and was wondering if the firewire output from a HDTV set top box could be recorded to computer using dvhstool. Is this a feature already possible in the program? If not, is there anyone (besides me) who would want this feature?

Windows XP comes with DVHS drivers that DVHSTool uses. Until someone writes a Windows driver for an STB you will not be able to use it with Windows.

Another small question,

can we use DVHS tool to use Mits and JVC Decks for regular Data(only) backup? If not, is it a shortcoming from software or hardware.

Data backup requires extensive error correction not present in either the DVHS hardware or software. Most small glitches you would not even see because the MPEG2 decoder would hide them. However even the smallest data loss would be unacceptable for backup purposes.
