want to get the belkin dvi but for some reason my local retailer has the 12' 10 bucks cheaper than the 6'. my question is will the extra 6 feet effect the performance or do performance issues spread over a ceratin length longer than 12'? Another question, i could also go the hdmi to dvi adaptor route. Do adapters effect performance also? thanks in advance.

There is no performance issue until you get over 15ft. HDMI to DVI is a purely digital connection straight through. There is no adaptation of signal, only connector. As long as you don't see sparkly pixels popping up on the screen, your cabling is doing a perfect job. There are no incremental quality differences with digital video transmission.
