Do you guys notice a difference in picture quality between the DVI and high-quality component cables with your HD box? I guess I'm asking: will I notice a difference. My setup is (will be) Hitachi 50v500.

It's probably most noteable with digital displays, (DLP, LCD, LCOS) as opposed to CRT sets. Can't hurt to try if you want to compare, just don't pay a fortune for your DVI cable, with it being digital, a decent quality cable will get the job done.

There was a noticeable difference on my Sony 36 inch Wega. When I use the component input there is a noticeable (by me) bow in the bottom and a little fold over along the top of a letter boxed image. With the DVI the picture is perfectly flat, straight, and linear.

That's not normal, either your cables were causing problems or you have a hardware and/or setting issue somewhere...

Buy the cable somewhere you can return it, only you can decide if it's worth it or not...

Then you haven't looked very hard.

Do a search. Lots of threads on where to get quality DVI and HDMI cables starting at about $20.

Check your local computer stores for a male to male DVI monitor cable, one of those should do the trick.

You forgot the :p

I'm just encouraging you to look some more. Read my sig. There was a post in the past week on AVSForum with a link to a US$9.95 DVI-D dual link cable and a single link is all that's required. Doing an internet search on DVI-D cable got a US$150, then a $68, then a $23 on the first 3 hits.

While you can indded get a DVI cable at low cost at the sources posted by other in this thread, you might want to also purchase a Monster and compare it. If you can't tell the difference then keep the inexpensive cable and return the Monster. You can get Monster DVI cables from BB or CC with a 30-day return period.

There is no comparative difference between DVI cables under 15ft. It's a digital signal. Stores push Monster because they make more money on them as high margin stock. Cables are very simple devices and there is no reason to pay a lot of money for them.

If you do notice a difference on a CRT display it may be due to your tv's settings for each input rather than the difference in cable. If you are good at making adjustments and your tv lets you make different adjustments for each input you may find you can duplicate the picture from one input on the other.
