I've ordered a Momitsu V-880. It of course has "DVD-I" output.

I think I now understand that DVI-I is actually both DVI-A and DVD-D all in one.

BUT. Now I need to know which cable I'll need. Because cables are also specified as either DVI-I or DVI-D.

I want to use my V-880 with an NEC HT1000 DLP projector which has DVI-D input. So I'm wanting to connect a DVI-I output (V-880) to a DVD-D input (projector). Which cable do I buy. The DVI-I or the DVD-D cable?

Single link should be fine for the bandwidth associated with the output of the DVD player. However, a double link will also work and is only a few dollars more at Pacific Cable.

DVD-D is pure digital, DVD-I is analog/VGA (+Digital) and either come single or dual link...
