DVI input: dvd or cable box?

Hello all, hope you're having a good weekend.

I have a 50" LCD Panny (PT-50LC13) with 1 DVI-input which I'm currently not using. I have a progressive scan Sony DVD player and Comcast cable box both connected via components.

My question, if I utilize the DVI-input with either a dvd player or cable box, which is going to give me the most noticeable, 'improved' results? Or in other words, what should I use my DVI-input for??

This morning, I tested out the DVI-DVI connection from cable box to tv (using stock cables), and didn't really notice any significant difference, except an additional line of static on top of the picture.

Will an upgraded, upconverting dvd player hooked up with DVI really be more visually pleasing than my component progressive scan player? Any suggestions on a good DVI-DVI dvd player? OR does it not matter, and using a HDMI-VDI converter cable works for HDMI players?

Thanks.

It depends on how much you want to spend for an upconverting DVD player. The expensive ones do not upconvert over component, so that would mean you need the DVI for DVD. I don't think the difference is great between component and DVI and since you have already compared the two using your cable box, I say use the DVI for the DVD player.
