Hi All,

I recently bought a KV40XBR800 a 40" 4:3 CRT HDTC it is the larger model of the KV36HS510 and KV32HS510(maybe XBR is a little brighter too but almost the same) it is a 1080 Highscan television. I think it upconverts 720p to 1080i.

It has a DVI-I input at the back of it.

I want to connect to my computer to view a desktop to run office applications, write emails, websurf etc.

I run my 19" computer monitor 1024 X 768 and would like to get as close to that resolution as possible, or higher considering the increased screen size.

#1 I think I will buy a RADEON, but don't play video games nor need much power.

#2 Do you need to buy a RADEON 8500 and up and get the DVI to component dongle or will direct connection via a DVI-D dual link cable be just as good?

#3 What is the highest resolution you have gotten with no overscan, no flickering and text is readable?

#4 With this resolution did you have to go into the service menu and change settings?

Thank-you for your replies I have read many of the forums but I have found it difficult to get direct answers so I may be asking the same question again.

I, too am interested in this subject. I was heading for a Monivision so as to avoid all this hassle, until I found out that (a) the company doesn't respond to sales inquiries; and (b) getting a 4x3 38" Monivision was not an under $2000 proposition.

I'm looking at the KV36HS510 to go with my Radeon 9600 non-pro so this interests me, too.

I think the main problem w/DVI is that PowerStrip seems to have less control over the DVI connection than it does the VGA->transcoder or the dongle route.

I can't say anything useful other than to provide some links on the subject that I've come across as I think it through (maybe you've already found these, but it doesn't hurt to post 'em, right?):

I look forward to more educated responses.

I have to keep this short for now, but powerstrip can control DVI output just fine. I have my Sapphire 9000 pro connected to my JVC AV-36P903 via DVI. I have adjusted all my resolutions using powerstrip.

cl3537,

I've come to the conclusion that my HDTV is no good for Windows. I use 800x600 in 720P timings for Xlobby. My TV upconverts 720P to 1080I. I can kind of browse the web in this resolution, but you can't make out all of the text. Anything higher is even worse, i.e. 1024x768 in 1080I timings. Monivision monitors might be better for this purpose.
