I have recently taken up the daunting task of setting up a PC based PVR. Right now, a good display is my proirity. The RCA component transcoder had overscan issues with my Radeon 8500DV and Sony 32HS500 (yes I tried custom powerstrip timings).

Now with a DVI cable, I get sizeable black borders (underscan) everywhere. Powerstrip adjustments to screen geometry has no impact. And frankly, I was suprised to see little to no improvement when going from transcoder to direct DVI. Has anyone had success with this type of setup ?

Thanks.

I have an All In Wonder Radeon card. Have you gone into the Display Settings and clicked the Advanced Tab? There is a dialog box that comes up with a "Displays" tab. If your computer is connected directly to the TV via a DVI connection, click on the "Displays" tab and then on the "Monitors" tab that shows up. You should then see different buttons that let you control the vertical size & position as well as horizontal size & position. I have used this feature using the TV tab as my TV is connected via an S-Video cable. I had major underscanning and was able to correct the problem this way.

Even if you have already fixed this problem, please respond and let me know how you like the TV. I am considering buying the 32hs500 or 32hs510 and would like to know if the computer desktop shows up in 4:3 mode or if the TV squishes it into 16:9 mode.

I hope that you have been able to get everything working well.:)
