For hooking up an HD STB, what is the preferred method, DVI or component cables? My TV has both inputs.


I am considering a new AV receiver that will upconvert all of my inputs to component, which will go to my TV and make switching between inputs a lot simpler. Obviously there is no DVI input on the receiver.


Which brings up a second question, will I lose any quality routing all of my video signals through the reciever? I am looking at the new Sony STR-DA3000ES AV receiver.

1st, don't route your video to anything you DON'T have to. Run it all directly to the TV. You tv does a fine job at switching inputs. You can still switch your audio with the receiver


2nd, go with the DVI if possible, Keeping it digital is just one less thing to have to worry about. Later... Mike....
