DVI to HDMI LCD TV connection

I’m having trouble getting my PowerBook (1GHz FW800 / OS X 10.4.6) to detect my 37†Vizio LCD TV (1366 x 768 resolution) with a DVI to HDMI connection. It will recognize the TV with an analog (RCA) connection, but I’m not sure about s-video or VGA since I don’t have cables for those connections. I’ve tried using DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX with no success – I believe the display has to be detected for these applications to do any good? I thought it might be the resolution of 1366 x 768 that was the problem, but from what I’ve been reading in the forums, it should still display something even if it is at a distorted resolution. I’ve also tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM and starting under OS X 10.3.9 with no luck

What’s interesting, when I restart my computer, my LCD TV will switch from its blue screen (no signal) to a white screen while my Powerbook screen is showing the Apple logo and progress circle only, then it goes back to the blue screen when the login starts. So, it seems as though it recognizes it as a dual display for only a short period of time during the booting process. Also, if I switch my TV from the normal digital input to digital TV input (both use the same HDMI port), I will hear a quiet buzz in my computer and the TV will shut off.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, I think that was one of the displays which didn't work digitally right out of the box with Macs and some trouble was reported with how they've implemented the HDMI port. I'm pretty sure I read a couple of Mac users reporting that going VGA instead worked great, however. So, try VGA unless you feel like more third party software pain.
