hello I have a Sammy 26" 2675 Widescreen HDTV and the HD-841 dvi upconverting dvd player.

I've got some choice for the connection type. On the DVD player I can use mode A or mode B, and on the tv I can use STMPE or 861B.

now as far as quality goes, which is the best ? I cant personally tell and I know you guys know alot more about this than I do.

Also, do you guys like 720p or 1080i better ??

If you can't trust your own eyes, what or who can you trust? :) Try each combination and see which one you like best. For 720p or 1080i I think you'll want to select 861B. Does the TV manual shed any light on which to choose and when?

DVI output: The display driver must expose display timings compatible with consumer DTV-compatible displays using the DVI interface, including the 720p and 1080i modes defined in EIA/CEA 861B. Display driver equipped with DVI interface supports EIA/CEA 861B display timings. (For more information on EIA/CEA 861B, please visit: http://www.ce.org/standards/StandardsCatalog.aspx. )

I think if you're using the HD-841 you're going to have some trouble with passing below black and above white information to your display. I'd suggest using the 861B setting on the TV and switch back and forth from mode A and B on the 841. Do this while viewing gray ramps from AVIA or Digital Video Essentials to set your brightness and contrast on the TV. Good luck, you may need to return the 841.
