I just got the Fusion HDTV II card for my HTPC (2.66Ghz P4, 512Meg DDR333, Radeon 9200) and I have it connected to my NEC LT150 projector which as a fixed-pixel resolution of 1024 X 768.

480i shows will not display full-screen, 1080i seem to work well, but 720p broadcasts are very jittery. The whole screen freezes every few seconds. It's more jittery if I turn of DxVA, but it doesn't freeze, but if I use DxVA, it is smooth until it freezes.

The signal strength indicates 100%. I'm line-of-site from the broadcast towers, so that's not the problem.

I called digitalconnections.com tech support and was told that I need to run Powerstrip because 720p is not 1024 X 768. I don't know diddly about Powerstrip or how to use it, set it up, or if it's even necessary for this.

I thought part of the benefit of the Fusion HDTV II card was that it used the HTPC's video card and could scale to whatever resolution you needed.

Help! Please!

Well, first off, what version of the Fusion software are you using? This can make a big difference in what you experience.

You are absolutely right about this. Not sure what the person giving you tech support was thinking. If you have 1024x768 working fine there is absolutely no reason to use powerstrip.

I'm using the 2.0 beta. The problem is a lot less severe with 2.0 than with the previous version (1.2, I think it was), but it's still not up to par.

Just to make sure, is this on channels that also broadcast widescreen content at 1080i, or 720p? If so, they will broadcast black bars on either side of the picture for 4:3 content. You should be able to remove them using the cropping options in the fusion software. If it is a true 480i 4:3 channel, have you played with the Aspect Ratio settings in the software? What, changes to you see when you change these settings?

Do you have more than one 720p station that this is occuring on? If not, I would suspect reception issues (seeing as you are having no trouble with 1080i stations). Maybe you are getting some Multi-path interference.

One last note, in my area (portland, or) the local ABC broadcast is actually broadcasting a bad signal that results in something similar to what you describe.

AHA!!!

I am in Portland, Oregon, also! So it could be KATU, and not my system, eh? My reception is fine. I am line-of-site to the tower and in SW Portland, not far from the towers.

If the problem really is KATU, it is frustrating, but sort of a relief, but how will I ever know.

I have only had the card a week or so, but KATU is the only 720p broadcast I've found.

I could not get any difference in the mini-freeze-ups no matter what aspect ratio or what screen size I chose.

I tried making the display only 480 X 270 to see if my system was having a hard time rendering the full screen and it still had the same mini-freezes.

I've switched the card from one PCI slot to another so there is no IRQ conflict, anymore, but I still have the same problem.

Well, thanks for the info. I guess it's not my system, after all.

At least I hope not.

Won't know until they broadcast something correctly, whenever that may happen.

Thanks for this info!
