I just got an explorer 8300, and reading the manaul (or what little manual you get) it says you can backup the dvr to vhs but NOT to DVD. Just to see, I tried vhs and it worked, but then I ran a long set of cables to the dvd/vhs recorder in my bedroom, plugged it into the front input jacks, and it recorded fine to dvd-ram.

From a legal standpoint, I assume I can make copies to dvd or dvd-ram for self use, just like with VHS?

And a second question. Because my dvd recorder has only digital audio OUT jacks (and only left and right RCA IN), am I correct in assuming that any dvd recording I make can have only two channel stereo sound via the rca cable in jacks?
