My question is - my logical step up is either the Special 40s, or Evoke 20’s. In comparison to the X18’s, What are the differences (beyond the construction and specs sheet), and which one is superior? My other dilemma would be what to do with the center channel, which realistically will be an upgrade to the Evoke 25C.

Thank you!

I've owned them both, and had them at the same time. If you like slow, muddy, lull you to sleep, unexciting speakers.....then the Evoke 20's are for you. Otherwise, don't waste your time trying to decide and buy the MUCH better speaker, which is the Special 40.

Ignoring sound quality, the Special 40 also uses higher quality drivers to start with. As a side note, the Evoke 20's finish also looked extremely cheap and mass produced to me. I had the gloss white finish.

My thought on vinyl is that you have to spend A LOT to come anywhere close to a good digital setup. In other words a mediocre vinyl setup will be completely inferior to a mediocre digital setup.
Well I have a good digital and Vinyl setup, but since I am just getting back into Vinyl it is hard for me to know the quality of the few records I have bought. I may splurge and buy a few known “audiophile” pressings from Discogs or somewhere similar, just so I know what a known great recorded album can, or should sound like on my new TT. I am all ears for recommendations from the Vinyl guys, you know, that one or two albums that set the bar really high.😲

Billy Joel - live at Carnegie hall
Billy Joel - greatest hits ( mofi)
Elvis - if i can dream ( with royal phil orchestra)
Sting - ten summoner tales
Dire straits - the mofi’s but also check ‘on every street’
S&G - parsley sage rosemary thyme mofi
( i like it better than the one step bridge over troubled water)

Just some i enjoy but of course a personal thing :)

Check Pallas pressings colllection also.
Recommand: buy the album you like: just new.

Although technical,- noisefloor, seperation-, digital is most likely better, i prefer vinyl somehow for its natural warmth, sparkle, depth and dynamic.

And because you dont have the easy digital continuous flipping to next track, you will explore and discover an album deeper.

Hello, everyone! I'm an old "off and on" audiophile who's brand spanking new to both Avsforum and Dynaudio. Back in the day--i.e. the 80's through the 00's--I had a big CD/LP collection and Adcom, PSB, etc. equipment, but I downsized by going the online streaming & smart speaker/soundbar route. Now I'm slowly bouncing back in the other direction, starting with a purchase this week of some Dynaudio Xeo 2's on sale.

I've got two quick questions for the experts here.

1. Is it intended for these speakers to have their wall/corner/neutral settings set individually or set the same? In my case, one is near a corner, and the other is in front of a wall. Do I set each accordingly, or is that a no-no?

2. Does anyone have experience using these with a Chromecast audio, and if so, is there a benefit from using a cheap DAC? The Xeo's optical input will likely be used by my TV, so I'm trying to figure out whether to simply connect the CCA via 3.5mm cable versus something like the Schiit Modi 3, Topping E30, etc. Music-wise I will upgrade to Amazon HD soon. (I also have some locally stored high-res files.)

Any advice is greatly needed & appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Modi 3 is a great little DAC and for $99 there really ins't anything that competes with it IMHO...
I have the Modi 3, for $99 it’s a very good dac. I like it much more then the dac in my Bluesound Node 2.
I’m all reality I don’t like the BSN2 at all. Although it does allow for many streaming options.

Good morning! So after a long 5-month wait, I finally received my C1 back from Dynaudio North America. I had an issue where one of the two threaded studs inside the long nut under the C1's black plinth base had sheared off on the inside and I had no way of mounting the speaker to the Stand 4.

The issue is now fixed, however in the process the little threaded stud that screws into the bottom half of that long nut went missing. Does anyone know what kind of stud that is or where I can buy a new one? Would Home Depot carry it?

Thanks!
I think they use M8-1.25 Flat Head socket cap screws, maybe M10-1.5. If you have a local Fastenal near you they could probably help.

That one was 25 dollars, original US pressing. This could get real expensive fast, but I am not going to go too crazy, just wanted a few albums of my own. Hell, the TT and phono-stage are not even broken in yet. Right now though, I have only found a few songs here and there that even come anywhere close to the sound I am getting from my digital front end. Maybe I have something set up wrong, don’️t really know yet. I bought seven albums today, but only played three so far.

I feel like my Rega P2 system sounds better the my BSN2/Modi 3 setup.

I have a modified RP40, basically the new P3 with mods and it always sounded better (with good vinyl/recordings) than my old Benchmark DAC3. When I upgraded to a Bricasti DAC, only 192/24 bit stuff can sound similar to the Rega in naturalness.

Whether we like to admit it or not digital does things to the music that do not exist in analog domain.

Today I used my spinclean record cleaner for the first time, and I don’t know if that helped or “The Wall” is my best sounding record so far, but it sounds spectacular. I was a little worried I made a mistake getting the TT up to this point, but it might be a combo of needing some hours on it, freshly cleaned record, and a good recording, but holy crap! Transported back to 1980 when this record first came out. The RP 10 is every bit as good a source as my Chord gear now. Hopefully this is the new normal, and not just one good recording.😍🥁🎸

Thanks x2 for the Modi 3 recommendations! I'm definitely inclined to try it now, especially at $99. (I still remember back when the very first stand-alone DACs were the size of a shoe box and cost as much as a small car.)

Incidentally, I've spent my first 24 hours streaming music from my Chromecast audio to these Xeo 2 speakers, and I'm now officially a Dynaudio fanatic!! Holy s--t, I haven't heard this kind of bang for the buck since I bought a pair of PSB Alpha's when I left for college. I'm already rationalizing how I can spend the $ to upgrade to the newer Xeo or Focus. (I swear, being a Hi Fi enthusiast is an addiction!)

Re. the Bluesound Node, what's the general consensus around here on it? I'm already discovering some of the limitations of the Chromecast, e.g. not working at full resolution with Amazon HD, and I've read that the Bluesound Node is the best alternative without spending $1,000. (Does it work with things like Google Assistant/Home?)

I get where you're coming from but I think it's just that we've become acclimatised to what cheap digital does. Clearly digital has better linearity, extension and channel separation. However even cheap analog has an ease to it that's hard to quantify.

Digital (particularly at the low end) can be sterile and a bit rough/edgy. I actually have found that as you move upward digital actually starts to be more analog sounding, ironically. Digital has the convenience factor though, and with Tidal et al a huge library of music is dirt cheap.

But cueing up a record, and the whole ritual, just makes listening more, I don't know, special somehow? More of an event? And personally I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday than browsing racks of records.. :)

Amplifier for Dynaudio Emit M10

Hi :) I am looking for an amplifier that creates a good synergy with the Dynaudio Emit M10, I know that Naim equipment is used by many but my budget for only amp is around €1000-1300€, what I am looking for from an amplifier is the power, rhythmic sense, energy, punch, dynamic but not at the expense of details, to have the feeling of being wrapped in a 3D dimension. I would like the mid range to be slightly rounded and warm and that the high frequencies are not too bright, I also like a sound with a large and deep soundtage and a good separation of instruments, I like a general warmth but also to distinguish transients well, I would also like it to listen well at low volumes without losing any information of the musical track. I will use my PC as a source in a configuration in the nearfield, the speakers will be positioned on stands "Norstone Stylum 3" I would prefer to use a separate DAC, I also use headphones for listening at night, so I would appreciate if the amplifier also had a headphone output

Big thanks and everyone for your support ;) I hope you can direct me in the best choice

Best Regards!

True, a lot quality can be gained everywhere in the digital chain and upgrading usually means more flow and get that ‘analogue’ sound.

Thanks for your reply, I would like to buy only new products I don't trust used equipment

Understand your point of view.
Both amps i must say, are build like tanks.
Think a new 1k - 1.5k amp will also not get anywhere close to the quality of a used 3k ( retailed ) amp. If you look for the characteristics requested.

IF this were my situation it would be an EASY decision. I'd go with a Schiit Aegir for the speaker amp which would be perfect in this scenario. To handle preamp and headphone amp duty I'd use either a Jotunheim or Asgard with a 4490 or Multibit DAC card. They are both great headphone amps and each have a built in preamp with optional DAC cards, so either can run both you cans or speakers and it's within your budget...

Does a Marantz PM 8006 fall within your budget where you are?

Just because you want all those qualities you describe, does not mean you will find them in a new product at the price range you are looking at. Those qualities usually are attainable with higher quality, or more expensive gear. It’s like saying I want Mercedes quality at Ford escort prices...not happening.

Have you tried searching the Steve Hoffman forum (via google) for any particular titles?
