Last X-mass I got my dish and 6000 reciever. The HDTV is now showing in my theater. I have only this week started to read about the hard drive recorder(PVR501?). Does anyone know if this recorder will work with my reciever or do you have to trade it in and get a whole new setup? Does anyone have this combo?

If you have another RG6 coax running from your dish, that's all you need. It's a model 4900 receiver with some software modifications and a hard drive for recording. The only problem that may arise is the RF remotes will conflict unless you change the address on one of them.

If you dont need it (501) on another tv then wait, it won't record your HD stuff from the 6000. If you want another IRD then its great! Early next year they have a new IRD that will record and process HDTV in one box. Also it will record one channel while watching another! Tex

I have the same question about the DISH system. Does the PVR 501 system still work correctly once you add the HD 6000?? I thought I heard somewhere that it complicated the PVR or even negated some of its functions if you add a 6000.

I have both the 6000 and the 501. These are TWO SEPERATE STB's. The only problem I have encounterred is that they are both in the same equipment rack and BOTH use the same IR code so I am forced to shut one off while I use the other.

For instance; if i am watching the 6000 and want to use the 501 to record a program, when I start pressing remote keys, both the 6000 and the 501 respond to the key presses.

Other than that, I love the 501. This is my first PVR and it is so convienent.

DISH says an HD-PVR will be available at the end of 2002. I believe it will be called a 901.

There is a consumer chat on monday. They will announce a upgrade for existing dish customers. You get a 501 for $199.00 when you sign up for Top 150 and credit card autopay for 1 year. Even if you are still under contract you can extend you contract 1 year and get it. That's $200.00 off!

The HD PVR is model 921 out early next year. Its a 721 that does HD.

Yes the 501 and 6000 will both work on one dish. You cannot record off of your 6000 or in HD.

LeeAntin: Put a piece of electrical tape over the 3 clear IR ports on the front of your receivers and use them in RF mode only. Then change your RF code on one to #1 and the other to #15. The process is in your remote manual.

I'll bet Dish has a lot of prepay offers. They want the cash to go after DirecTV.

That's good to know about the 501 and 6000 working together. Believe it or not, for new dish customers they are giving away a 501PVR and a 301, along with a dual dish for free. I found the deal at Costco, but the deal is still with Echostar directly. They'll even waive the $50 activation if you press them hard enough.

Does the DISH 501 PVR even compare to TIVO or Ultimate TV type recorders? I haven't ever seen one in action, but I'm very tempted to grab this deal while its free.
