I have a Panny E-80 DVD-R recorder, and receives HDTV 1080i from my digital cable provider (Rogers) using Scientific Atlanta 8000HD-PVR.

What is the best way to record 16:9 HD content onto DVD-R's using the E80, and gives the best possible quality? (I use mostly XP and SP speed)

You can't record HD using the E80. You can only record HD that's been converted to SD first.

Just select a recording from your recorded list and select "Save to VCR." This will output the program through the composite outputs. Alternatively, enter the HDTV Setup Wizard (press guide and info on box while power is off) and enable 480i.

Thanks bfdtv.

I have since found out there is the other thread on the forum that talks about the matter:

The issue now is, how to set the 16:9 flag correctly on the DVD recorder and for the 16:9 TV so it comes out correctly on any TV. I haven't gone through all the suggestions in this other thread entirely, but I will.
