I have recently noticed an ever so slight occasional stutterring on HDD-recorded programs off cable on my E85. This does not happen on stuff I record from VHS to the HDD, and does not happen while playing stuff through any of the inputs either. It is exclusive to material recorded off cable on the HDD and played back directly from the HDD. This has never happened on my E80 either. Any clues?

Yes, and I get my signal through a Motorola box. I have noticed it both on recordings from the the analog and digital channels, though.

I have a friend (also in Chicago) who complains quite frequently about digital breakup/glitches from the cable service. If you have a box, even the analog signals are being converted (and compressed) to output to a single digital stream.


We have also been going through a solar outage period which affects all satellites that the cable company uses to bring down many of their signals.


Did you record the programs on timer, or did you watch them live as they were being recorded? You'll need to verify that the original source wasn't flawed before suspecting problems with the DVD recorder.

In the last few months, I have had both of my cable boxes replaced by Comcast because of frequent signal breaks/tiling of cable broadcasts (which happened on digital channels only). The box changes seem to have taken care of that problem. The current E85 stuttering is different from the previous breakups. The stuttering is subtle and infrequent (it will happen three or four times for a fraction of a second each time in a one-hour show and you can barely notice). The breakups I had experienced before were dramat and frequent (they rendered shows pretty much unwatchable). In any event, I have only noticed the current stuttering on timer-recorded shows, and as I said before, I also own an E80 which has never caused this problem at all.

I haven't had any stuttering with mine. I record mainly from my Dish 6000 and Voom via S-Video and a little bit OTA Analog through the built in tuner.
