I'm witnessing how High Definition is only now reallly becoming High Definition, for example screens a few years old have visual tics, monitors were actually analog until recently etc.

My first memory of High Definition was back in the late 80's I think. If I recall, NBC had filmed a Perry Mason TV movie in High Def, making it the first High Definition network broadcast I think. It seems unlikely that it was for the benefit of viewers at large; I imagine it was actually for industry testing purposes or something.

Did anyone here own a high definition set back then, or have a customer that owned one? I imagine they were novelties at best, kind of like people who owned televisions in the late 40's. And were those first sets good for watching standard broadcasts at least? Did they air it over a special frequency or something?
