Easiest way to connect 3 or 4 Headphones to Anthem AVM60

1406 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  bdht
Trying to figure out what is the standard way to distribute audio to 3 headphones in a home theater?

I'm using an Anthem AVM60 and it has a headphone pre-amp out. How can I have 3 quality headphones ($400 to $600 each) connected for immersive audio?

AVM60 is in an AV Closet. About 15' from the 4 seats that I would need Headphones.

Most of time we need a headphone is during the week when kids are sleeping and wife and I want to enjoy a movie or two without cranking the sound. Every now and then we need a 3rd headphone for the oldest kid.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Maybe from the anthems optical audio out to an optical dac and multi headphone amp, could put an optical splitter in front of the dac to a separate system for bass shakers too. Or separate dacs and amps so each person can have volume control nearby.

For the immersive part it looks like the anthem has passthrough on the optical port so youd need a device that can accept dolby5.1(ac3), decode, and do the binaural rendering, some devices from creative can do this like the g6. so anthem > g6(input 5.1 dolby digital[via optical/spdif input] output 2.0 binaural stereo pcm[via optical spdif output]) > 1x4 optical splitter > 4x optical dac & headamps

Or get a realiser a16

None of those solutions carry the surround sound. The realizer is way more than I need....

Been looking for a while. Tough to believe that there is zero demand in the market for in a nice Home Theater headphone distribution gadget to 3 or 4 headphones that can take an HDMI in and distribute the surround sound to 4 headphones....
I know about the realizer, but for $4k, it makes no sense to me. Besides it only feeds 2 headphones.

All of the Headphone Amplifiers in the mkt are stereo only. Most are used in Studios during tracking and are not that great for high quality audio pass through...

Im not aware of anything aside from the realiser that will provide lossless audio and surround virtualization to multiple headphones over hdmi when not using a pc as a source.

You can get lossy surround virtualization to multiple headphones in the way I described. Anthems optical out > creative g6 > optical splitter > multiple dac/amps

If you want lossless audio you can use a PC. Programs like Out of Your Head and Impulcifier can provide a comparable experience to the Realisers(measured rooms/speakers) at a fraction of the cost.

You can then output the 2.0 binaural stereo signal via optical to the splitter, or use a program like voicemeter to output to multiple usb dacs.

Creative is supposed to be releasing a multi user device vut i dont remember if it has all the hdmi 2.0b passthrough stuff or if its just optical also.
Also the Japanese version of the Sony HW700DS can drive multiple headphones
