From what I understand TiVo has to be hooked up to the phone lines. I figure this is to download TV Schedules. My question is - do i have to hook it up to the phone line? Because I don't have a landline. I use a cell phone as my primary. I would really love to have TIVO, but no one knows whether this is a requirement or not. Does anyone know If I can hook it up to my computer or my network somehow to do this so I can enjoy all my shows?

Is the a Direct TV Tivo?


A COMBO unit Tivo (With DirecTV Built in) does not need to be connected to a phone line. It gets the program list from the dish.


If this is a standalone Tivo connected to Cable, Antenna, or PLUGGED INTO a satellite receiver, it MUST be connected to a phone line. It will not be able to download it's data.

HOWEVER

If you have broadband, and a series 2 Tivo, you can connect a USB ethernet addaptor and enter a code into the dial-up phone# and it will connect through your broadbabd account.


This does not yet work for the series 2 DirecTV Tivos.
