On Oct 30 I bought my Mercata 3030 using EBATES. Still, nothing has shown up in MY ACCOUNT in EBATES. They quote that it can take a MONTH for the item to show up, well it's been about 2 weeks. Has anybody else who used EBATES gotten the rebate? Any details?

Have you received any kind of email confirmation of the transaction from ebates? If not, I would try contacting Mercata and confirming that they know that you linked from ebates, that's the deciding factor, if Mercata's tracking software doesn't list your trade as having come from ebates, then you won't get anything. I had to go through all this myself.

Well I emailed them and they immediately responded saying "Since you didn't use EBATES to buy, we don't credit you the rebate!"


WELL, I most certainly DID use EBATES, in fact Mercata.com was in THEIR frame when I ordered! I responded, let's see what these unprofessional guys say (who don't even use a CGI script for form email, a very amateur move in web design terms)

They already wrote back saying that I DIDN'T order using EBATES. This company is beyond unorganized. She actually wrote "Why don't you call Mercata, if you can get them to send us our commission we'll give you your rebate".


Unbelievable.

Well, they write back fast, I'll give them that. Her latest comment "It can take up to 30 days, or longer".


UP TO 30 days... or longer... whatever they want. Their choice. Depends on if the bank account has enough cash in it to mail me my check I guess. Of course, they don't provide ANY sort of reciept or confirmation. If it shows up, it shows up. If not, you're screwed.


I'm going to write a letter to Mercata, perhaps they'd be willing to provide assistance.

OKAY. Ebates just wrote and said that upon closer inspection they DID notice my "session activity" and that I should expect to recieve my rebate.


The moral of this darn mess? This company, although they MAY (or may not) come through in the end, needs to revamp their system / process.

Randy, you are not alone:


I ordered a 3030 on 11/5 and linked through the site (Thanks Rob!) and the rebate is not in my account either. I sent an email to ebates about 7 hours ago and still have not received a reply.

The thing to keep in mind is that it is Mercata that has to recognise that you came from ebates, not the other way around, so I would recommend that anyone who has doubts about whether their purchase has been propery recognised should contact Mercata first. If Mercata confirms that they show you as having linked from ebates, then you can start contacting ebates. If Mercata doesn't show you as having linked from ebates, then you need to work on Mercata first, ebates needs to get their commission from Mercata before they can give you a rebate. when I bought my Showstopper the ebates link wasn't working, so I had to get Mercata to manually fix it so that ebates got their commission.


Randy's got it right about their system though!

100% right, Rob, BUT with their current system, EBATES will always get the bad press. (and frankly, they should) their current system shows no confirmations, no receipts, nothing. It's ridulous, comes down to your word against theirs in the event of a dispute.

LOL, just got my response from Mercata:


"I am unfamiliar with Ebates.com and their service. Perhaps you should contact them regarding any rebates they offer"


If it's not one thing...

Don't get too angry with ebates, after all, it doesn't cost you anything and you may get some found money for your trouble.


As for Mercata, there's every possibility that the service rep who ansered your email is not familiar with ebates, as I'm sure that there are 100's of referral services out there. I would recommend that you persevere, with polite and informative emails, and explain to them what ebates is and that you did link from ebates to Mercata and that you simply wish to verify that the Mercata tracking software picked up the fact that you came from ebates. You can additionally explain that ebates has said that they cannot process your ebates rebate until they receiver their commission from Mercata, which brings you back to Mercata. They will eventually be able to determine if they show your purchase as being a result of an ebates link or not, if they don't show you as having linked from ebates they have the discretional ability to manually fix it, this is where honey will catch more flies than vinegar!
