ECP 3100. Questions about stuff

363 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Nich
Hi all

I'm looking at a ECP 3200 for a 'client', but I'm puzzled about a couple

of things. First, I connect a player through the composit input and

the image on the tubes looks very strange with diagonal lines non-moving.

Also, there are two composit BNC's for each input, one of them labeled

'decoder'. Makes no difference which of them I'm using.

So, I tried to connect my HTPC to it through RGBHV at [email protected],

no picture. How can I make sure that it is on the correct input? The

Marquee's just seem to 'get it'

If I fire up the internal testgrid, the image bounces up and down.

Any advice for this ugly little robot? ( not me:))

Thanks,

Nicholas

To get the computer to work you need to combine the vertical and horizontal sync connectors using a T connectorand plug that into the composite sync input, I use an old ethernet T connector.

The grid will jump if the input sync is not right.

There are older posts about this, you should search the forum archive.

My 4101 doesn't have a composite video input so I can't help you there. I use an AVT3200 from http://www.avtoolbox.com/ to get video into my projector via the RGBS input. The AVT3200 works fairly well but the image is underscanned a bit. There are many other cheap line doublers out there these days to choose from.

I needed the T-adapter for my 4101 (like Matt's), but not my 3101 (like your's).

Try both AUTO and manual H HOLD and V HOLD by toggling the remote (the yellow V MANUAL light will come on when in V MANUAL).

I just hooked up a composite input to my 3101.

Worked fine...

I'm using a BNC->RCA adapter.

I chose SOURCE 0 2 on the remote (slot 0 input 2)

Pressing * shows:
Quote:
Current H: 15.7 KHz

Current V: 59.9 Hz

ASR On
But when I remove the 75 ohm terminator from the other input, the screen goes white with only a black outline around the DVD's menu text (any part of the image that has color goes to white, any part of the image that was black stays black).

Doesn't matter if I use the "Multi-Decoder" side or the "SVHS Standard" side. Same effect.

Do you have the RCA(single_composite_input)->BNC adapter?

Do you have a 75 ohm BNC terminator?

Thanks for your input.

Since the pj has RGBHV I just use that, right?

"I chose SOURCE 0 2 on the remote (slot 0 input 2)"

Do I press SOURCE, then 0, then 2?

For composite, mine is setup as slot 0 input 2, so you would press the following 3 keys in sequence: [SOURCE], [0], [2].

For RGBHV input, if your slots are the same as mine (which I think is default on 90% of ECPs), you would press

[SOURCE], [1], [1]

or [SOURCE], [1], [2]

Yes, RGBHV will be much preferred over composite.

That's not what I meant, you said something about using a T-connector,

does that mean that your machine has RGBS?

I've never had to use the T-connector with my 3101, only my 4101.

For the 3101, I use all 5 BNCs without combining the syncs.

You shouldn't need a T connector in this configuration. The only time you should is when you're trying to run two 5 wire source connections on one input module, because internally, the V sync is summed through a bidirectional buffer.

The reason your PC is not working is probably because you're on the wrong input. There are 2 input module slots... slot zero and slot 1. Each RGBHV input module has 2 inputs....input 1 & 2. So, to select the correct input, you will use either 0,1; 0,2; 1,1; or 1,2. Before pressing any of these 2 digit combos, first press the source button, followed immediately by the appropriate slot/input sequence. The outer-most slot (by the edge of the PJ case) is slot 1 while the inner slot is slot 0. As for your composite video input on your multistandard decoder module, forget it - it's crap. The reason your not seeing anything is most likely because the internal jumpers have been set for svideo operation, which uses both of the composite video inputs to connect Y & C of an svideo input.

Thanks! It worked!!

BUT, I've just discovered that the fans(2 each side) doesn't spin very well.

Infact, they turn VERY slowly, and sometimes stop, only to start spinning a

couple of times more, and stop again. Any advice on this? (yes, ALL four

fans, go figure)

Thanks again!

Yes, replace them right away - this PJ really does need these fans to avoid failure. Do a search on ECP's as a few people have found suitable replacements for them that are quieter than the originals. Good luck.

Thanks!

Another thing: How do I converge using an EXTERNAL grid??
