eD A5-350 vs A7S-450?

Ok, so i'm starting the fund to save for a sub to replace my A2-300, i do listen to a lot of music so the idea of a sealed sub is tempting, but the subs primary function is still HT so it needs to perform best first for HT, then secondarily for music.

My question is this, the A7S-450, despite being a sealed sub, has a 3" driver advantage and an 800w power advantage, i would suspect output would be at least equivalent or possibly better than the A5-350? They are both similarly priced. I know the ported subs typically produce more output and lower frequencies, but im willing to trade a few hz under 20 for better sound quality and a more compact cabinet.

I've done some searches through the subwoofer forum, and there is tons of information on the A5-350 but i can't seem to find much at all on the A7S-450 except that it outperforms an Epik Vanquish by a good margin, but looses out on sound quality.

Does anyone have any personal experience with the A7S-450 that has used other subs in the $700-$900 price range?

My other question is would i really see a substantive gain in both output and sound quality with either of those subs over my current a2-300? Or should i really be looking more at the lines of either a second A2-300, or spending more than $1k on a sub?

Thanks for your time everyone.

Click on my sig and you can read our ideas of the 450. Someone brought one to my sub shootout. We did measurements from two positions in the listening space and kept a set of spl meters going all day. It wasn't as good as the diy stuff that was there, but its still a good sub.

Being a new owner of a A7S-450, I can tell you, for my environment, the A7S really kicks well for movies AND music.

I'm coming from a MK MX150 sub (two 12" in a push pull config) and the A7S has amazing output and is responsive. I still have to EQ the sub for my room (I got an eq2 with it) as my room has some spikes and nulls. But, once tuned, watch out. For the price and performance, the A7S is really hard to beat.

Also, the A7S, although being "smaller" because of it being sealed, is not. When I got the unit, I thought...OMG...what did I order?? Then...it really occurred to me....the radius of the driver is LARGER than some car rims!
After powering up and testing it, my size concerns went away

Good luck on your quest.

I was deciding on this exact question a week or so ago.

I wound up buying the A5-350 because I typically play more games/movies/TV than I listen to music, and my floorplan is an open floorplan with high ceilings so the room is fairly large, and people said that the ported subs do a better job of filling out bigger rooms.

Yeah, i'm kind of thinking the same thing. I really want the ported sub, but for just overall efficiency, it seems the ported subs are better. Not to mention i didnt factor having to buy an EQ for the ported sub. So that creates a price difference that IMO puts it in favor of the ported sub.
eD eq.2 is $100 and should be enough unless your room is terrible
