Holy cow.. I need some help...I am interested in purchasing two new subs and have read so much info my head is spinning.... I currently have two MK-350's in my less than ideal theater. See Attached house plan pdf file - subs are shown in red.. My living room theater is 25x25 x10' which also has a coffered ceiling going up approx 14' but is also wide open to the kitchen, dining room and entry way as well as the arched openings to all the hallways leading to the bedrooms and garage. I am figuring somewhere in the neighbor hood of 11k+ cubic ft.

My setup is as follows..above the fireplace I have a LG 60" plasma, all Sonance Cinema Ultra II LCR and SUR in-walls. I have all my gear in a "media closet" racked up in a MA Rack. One of the subs are in the media closet and the other sub is in the coat closet both of which flank the fireplace. Both subs are firing through blank/faux speaker grills. While these subs worked well in my 14x16' room I had in my last house they are just not enough in my new very large open space. Not to mention alot of low frequncy is contained within the media closet and coat closet.

My plan is to cut the dry wall and have the subs mounted flush to the sheetrock firing right into the living room. To keep the wife happy I need to devise some kinds of acoustically transparent fabric wall covering so the subs do not show. I have quite a bit of space to work with but am somewhat confined to a certain max height and width unless I start cutting 2'x4' in the wall and removeing a shelf in the closet which is not going to happened accourding to the wife. The puts some of the Ed subs out of the question. I am limted to a max height of 28"H x 22"W X 36"D

I have pretty much settled on going with Elemental Design Subs based on everything I have been reading. I don't have the need to spend any extra money on a sexy looking sub because they will basically be "hidden". Also since they have a DIY Kit which would save me a ton. I have narrowed it down further to either dual A7-350 ($2400 2x15" ported)from ED which would practically slip right in place just making a larger hole or a custom DIY A7s-650 kit ($2100 4 x 13" sealed +some shipping, tools and labor. her is an example of the custom 650 box about 3/4 way down the page posted by "Brusteraider" ---damn it won't let me post a link until 3 posts---- My Mix is 50% ht and 50% music..which most music is prog/alt/art metal like Tool-A perfect circle ect...

I think I would be happy with either one.. just wanting some opinions to push me off the fence one way or the other. I am kind of leaning towards doing the a custom 650kit just because the subs look so cool and should sound great for music. Not so concered about loudness rather the feeling from either choice of subs.

Let me know if you need any other info

Thanks in Advance

John

If your preference is 50% music I would recommend the A7s-650 subs. Should go low enough for home theater for you and give good mid to upper bass sound quality for music. If your preference would of been strictly home theater then I would of recommended the A7-350 which I used to own. A monster sub for "feeling" low end freqs and pressurizing your room. Two of these guys would be unreal used in their intended operating range but not for what you said your listening habits consist of.

I have had a couple members tell me the A7s-650s will go lower than the A7-350 since ported subs roll off at the tuned frequency quite steeply. There is a guy selling two A7s-650s for a good price on the classifieds right now.
