I have my HTPC connected to a hdmi matrix that does not support copying the VSDB containing 3D support.


If I connect my HTPC directly to the TV (Panasonic VT20) then the Nvidia control panel will let me set up 3D support to a HDMI 1.4a TV. If I use the matrix then this option is not available since the 3D EDID support data is no longer being presented to the Graphics card (Nvidia GT240).


I have read the various EDID faqs and played around with the basic EDID override settings by creating a new .inf file from moninfo and applying it to the monitor in device manager, but this isnt working and the Nvidia control panel will still show the matrix EDID information on the HDCP tab. I assume that the Nvidia driver is too smart for this?


Does anyone know of a way to force the system to use the EDID I specify and/or force 3D output.

Please post the .inf file you're using to override the EDID. Has it been captured from a direct connection to the TV? Any added modifications (except merging the AVR audio SADs of course)? If the EDID base block is an exact replica of the TV EDID base block I can only think of an installation problem.

Hi,


inf file attached. It was taken directly from the TV and moninfo is decoding it correctly and showing the 3d structure. The only change I have made is to change


PRODUCTID="Panasonic-TV"


since it used to say something like PRODUCTID="Panasonic-TV" EDID copy


The actual EDID data is unchanged....

Yup, I don't see any problem in the EDID, so it's either a problem with the installation of the EDID override, or not an EDID problem at all.


Sorry that I can't be of more help as I have zero experience on 3D stuff.

I have made a little progress, I tried another inf file posted on the web and this enabled the 3D option I am looking for - I got no picture though since I guess the timings are wrong. It does show what I am trying to do is at least possible though. Wondering if it is something simple like needing to change MONITOR\\MEIA0A4 to any other value to ensure that the system is forced to see everything as a brand new monitor....


I think I should have this cracked in a few hours. Friend's kids are watching a movie here at the moment so I cannot play... very frustrating :)

hmm ... so maybe the registry needs some cleanup? Try removing all registry leftovers by following procedure outlined in link on my sig. Then try the EDID override again with your TV EDID. If it works with another EDID it should really works with yours.

Hmmm, can't figure this one out. I deleted all monitors from device manager (including hidden devices etc.) but results are the same.


If I use NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf which is the inf file I found on the web then I get the 3D option in Nvidia control panel to setup a HDMI 1.4 device, this is what I am looking for. However I get no video at any time (not even 2D), I only see these options since I am connecting remotely to the PC. Assume that timings are wrong hence no picture.... The other thing is that the HDCP tab in Nvidia control panel shows a different monitor name than the name of my matrix - ie. everything looks like it should....


If I use monitor.inf which was taken from moninfo when connected directly to the TV, then I get no 3d options and the monitor name in HDCP is still the name of the matrix. It appears that the inf file is not being used.


As a last attempt I created merged.inf, this is NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf with the two EDID sections taken from monitor.inf. Results are identical to when using monitor.inf


So.. it appears that there is something in the EDID data that it doesnt like unless I am missing something obvious.


When connecting directly to the TV, everything works correctly, so not sure why it doesnt like the monitor.inf file......

My final test failed as well :-


Rebuilt HTPC with x32 windows 7 (was x64 windows 7)

connected locally to 3D TV

Nvidia control panel shows a HDMI 1.4a device and the TV as PANASONIC-TV

dumped EDID data with moninfo

Applied the inf file to Generic monitor

Rebooted - everything still works


Connected PC to Matrix

Applied the inf file to Generic monitor

Rebooted - everything still works

NVIDIA Control Panel shows the matrix as GRANDBEING - it is no longer using the inf file.....


Applied the Samsung inf file I had downloaded..... NVidia control panel shows a HDMI 1.4a device and the TV as DENON (dont get a picture with this inf file though)


Went to the registry and copied the override keys from the Panasonic to the

Samsung display.

Rebooted

Now get a picture and TV is shown as GRANDBEING.


Connected PC back directly to the TV and used the Samsung inf file. Got the same no picture results as above (wanted to rule out any issues with the matrix and this inf file)


Every test I do seems to indicate that there is a problem with the override data in the inf file I have dumped with moninfo....

The 3D relevant EDID data must be in the Vendor Specific Data Block (extension block), I guess. But maybe also the Vendor/Product Idenification and Monitor Descriptor in the EDID base block are relevant too.


So I would try replacing these in your captured EDID, which looks fine to me. OTH you could try a new capture with a different PC/card (e.g with an HDMI equipped laptop).


If you need help doing these mods post the working EDID that you found on the web and I'll do the mods.

Thanks for sticking with me.


The inf files I am using are all in the merged.zip I posted a few posts back.


I am starting to get to grips with the EDID editors etc, but my first attempts haven't produced anything useful.

Ok, here we go. I've attached 2 mods:
  1. Original monitor.inf + VSD from NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf.
  2. Original monitor.inf + DENON Ids. from NVIDIA-UN-3DTV + VSD from NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf.

Thanks - tried both and the HTPC is showing the Matrix (Grandbeing) for the attached monitor.


It is really odd why it seems to keep rejecting these EDIDs.


I played earlier and started with the working Samsung EDID and moved the data over in stages from the 1st data block of the Panasonic. I got to the stage where all the timings in the 1st data block were from the Panasonic and the system contnued to see the EDID as a samsung device. I started moving data from the second data block and evetually caused the EDID to be rejected.


I need to repeat the above tests to see at what stage this all breaks... but wife is getting a little fed up of no TV :)


Will post back when I get a chance.

BTW, I dumped the EDID from a 2nd laptop, the moninfo data is identical to what I am using at the moment.

Nice, so we know at least that the "problem" is in the extension block ... Will take a look.


... OK, there's no Speaker Allocation Descriptor. I know it's unrelated by as this is really a parsing bug in the drivers we should consider every possibility.

OMG, that is working! Thank you so much, you would not believe the amount of time I have spent on this due to incompatible equipment etc.


Can you PM me your Paypal account, I would like to buy you a few Xmas drinks, it is the least I can do.


Next issue is to get Power DVD working in 3D..... Says it is playing in 3D but it is not acually outputting a 3D image.... (does this when connected directly to the TV) and I have support calls open with Cyberlink that are going nowhere quick!

hi tulli ia have a samsung ue46c8000 3d led tv and i want put on hdmi 3d 1.4a i have too the nvidia 540m but when i plug the hdmi link the pc says monitor php do you have any inf to this tv can help me?supodsly this tv is not compatible with nvidia 3dtv play but it is 3d...
