Hi everyone

 

I need some help with my htpc set-up as I've moved the computer away to another room and now use a long hdmi cable to my TV.

The tv is a ue55d8000 and i have a home theatre system attached to it via spdif out from TV to the unit. The home theatre system is a DAV-DZ860W it does not have hdmi in but has spdif and coax.

 

Previously the htpc was situated by the tv and a coax from the tv transferred audio while hdmi to the TV and this was great however the computers a bit noisy so I thought moving the computer would be the easiest/cheapest way of dealing with this. Knowing that hdmi is dvi+spdif i thought that I wouldn't need to worry about audio as my TV supports (ARC) or Dolby pass through.

 

However the computer, running windows 7, does not allow me to send 5.1 over hdmi to the tv as it assumes the tv has only 2 speakers. After some investigating i realised i need to do an edid override and found an inf file here . Now with this installed I get dts and 5.1 through to the surround sound in media player classic however if I try to load a bluray it crashes TMT5.

 

I have a feeling it has to do with the edid file being slightly different to the one for my TV but I'm not sure and i was hoping somebody here could help me out.

 

I have my monitor info below incase it is needed for more detail or anything like that.

How long is long and what specific cable are you using?
Thanks for the reply. I've currently move the pc back next to the TV to ensure its not the hdmi cable and am using a 2m cable however the long hdmi cable is 10M and is this one

Does that cable have Redmere technology? 30m is quite long to pass high speed HDMI without it.

Sorry I've never heard of Redmere technology and the HDMI cable is only 10m. I'm quite confused?

Sorry. I was converting meters to approximate feet.


At any rate, anything over 8 meters is considered too long for regular cable so you would need a RedMere Cable for it.

Oh okay. I understand and will look into that. But if im also using a 2m cable and there's still no bitstreaming, do you know how I can make it work?

OK. So 5.1 never worked before. Have yu considered upgrading your AVR? Maybe your TV is nit capable of passing 5.1 through to your AVR.

I have thought about upgrading the avr with one that has hdmi in but i would rather not spend any extra money. I know that the tv is capable as the passthrough worked in mpc with this edid inf .
